Die evangelische Kirche St. Georgen ist die Dorfkirche zu Zabeltitz. Sie wurde von 1580 bis 1581 im spätgotischen Stil erbaut und nach dem heiligen Georg benannt. Sie ist das älteste erhaltene Gebäude von Zabeltitz da sie alle Kriege und den Großbrand von 1808 nahezu unbeschadet überstand.

Durch seine freundliche Helligkeit und Geschlossenheit sorgt der Innenraum für einen harmonischen Gesamteindruck und vermittelt das Gefühl der Geborgenheit.

1412 wurde in einer Urkunde berichtet, dass Ritter Heinrich von Herstein mit seiner Gemahlin einer Kirche zu Zabeltitz einen Altar schenkt. Erst 1495 wurde jedoch eine hölzerne Kirche selbst urkundlich erwähnt. 1580 gab Nickel Pflugk den Bau der heutigen, nach dem heiligen Georg benannten, Kirche in Auftrag. 1581 wurde sie, aufgrund Nickels Tod am 4. Oktober 1580, unter seiner Frau Elisabeth, geborene von Schönberg, fertiggestellt und geweiht. 1585 entstanden die beiden Schlusssteine über dem Altar mit den beiden Wappen der Familien Pflugk und Schönberg.

Die Erbauer der Kirche, Nickel und Elisabeth Pflugk, wurden zusammen mit weiteren sechs Angehörigen in der Kirche beigesetzt. Auch der für die Zabeltitzer Geschichte bedeutsame August Christoph Reichsgraf von Wackerbarth wurde 1734 in der Dorfkirche bestattet, jedoch ohne Grabmal. Die Gruft ist heute nicht mehr zugänglich. Der Kirchturm wurde 1735 von Grund auf erneuert, um rund zwei Meter erhöht und somit in die heutige Form gebracht. 1839 fand eine große Kirchenrestaurierung statt, bei der unter anderem das Epitaph Nickel Pflugks von der Nordwand abgebaut und an die Ostwand als Altar gesetzt wurde. Zum Reformationstag 1839 wurde die restaurierte Dorfkirche von Pfarrer Breyer eingeweiht.

Der Sandsteinaltar und der Taufstein sind Werke des Dresdner Bildhauers Christian Walther II.

Die Kirche wurde zuletzt von 2010 bis 2011 saniert

  • Die St. Georgen-Kirche ist  von April bis Oktober jeden Dienstag bis Sonntag von 10.00 bis 16.00 Uhr geöffnet.
  • Eine Besichtigung ist auf Voranmeldung außerhalb der Öffnungszeiten möglich.
