Wie alle alten Wehrkirchen aus jener Zeit war auch die St. Gallus Kirche mit einer hohen Mauer und darin enthaltenen Schießscharten umgeben. Neben dem Gotteshaus steht das alte Pfarrhaus, das erstmals 1410 genannt wird.
1556 trat das Dorf Ötlingen der Reformation bei und ist – wie der überwiegende Teil des Markgräflerlandes – evangelisch.
Nicht versäumen, auf die südliche Aussenseite der Kirche zu gehen. Es bietet sich ein toller Blick auf den Tüllinger Berg mit der Basler Bucht, mit Weil am Rhein, Haltingen und der Hochhauskulisse von Basel Stadt.
