Als Wahrzeichen der Stadt Osterode am Harz ist der Turm der St.Aegidien-Marktkirche schon von Weitem überall sichtbar.

Diese aus dem Mittelalter stammende Stadtkirche wurde nach dem großen Stadtbrand von 1545 wieder errichtet. Im Kirchturm an der Westseite befand sich noch bis 1936 die Wohnung des Turmwächters, der bei Feuer Alarm zu geben hatte.

Im Inneren der Kirche verdienen der holzgeschnitzte Taufständer von 1589, die Kassettendecke, der im frühen Barockstil gehaltene Altar, welcher im 18. Jahrhundert erweitert wurde, sowie die Grabplatten der letzten Grubenhagener Herzöge und ihrer Frauen besondere Beachtung.

Opening times

Kirchenöffnung: Mai bis Oktober Dienstag bis Freitag von 10.30 Uhr bis 12.30 Uhr / 15.00 Uhr bis 17.00 Uhr.
März bis Dezember Samstag von 10:00 - 12:30 Uhr Hier ist Zeit der Begegnung und wer möchte, kann dann um 11:00 Uhr auch den Kirchturm erklimmen und seinen Blick über Osterode schweifen lassen. Natürlich sind auf Anfrage auch Sonderführungen möglich.
