Gottfried Silbermann (1683 - 1753) hatte bereits 1721 in der St. Georgenkirche in Rötha eine zweimanualige Orgel gebaut. Drei Tage nach der Orgelweihe erteilte Freiherr von Friesen an Silbermann den Auftrag zum Bau einer neuen Orgel für die St. Marienkirche. Ursprünglich ohne selbständiges Pedalregister und mit nur 9 Registern vereinbart, erweiterte Silbermann die Disposition um Subbaß 16' und eine Terz 1 3/5'. Die Weihe erfolgte bereits 1722. I/11. 1942 wurde die Orgel wegen starker Bauschäden an der Kirche ausgebaut und in der St. Georgenkirche eingelagert. Seit 1958 steht die Orgel wieder in der sanierten St. Marienkirche. 2005 erfolgte eine grundlegende Restaurierung durch den Orgelbau Ekkehard Groß.
