Gottfried Silbermann (1683 - 1753) erlernte den Orgelbau bei seinem Bruder Andreas (1678 - 1734) in Straßburg, bevor er ab 1711 seine eigene Firma in Freiberg führte. Im Dezember 1718 schloss der Kirchenpatron Freiherr von Friesen mit Gottfried Silbermann und Zacharias Hildebrandt einen Kontrakt zum Bau einer neuen Orgel. II/23. Am 8. November 1721 erfolgte die Prüfung durch Thomaskantor Johann Kuhnau aus Leipzig und Hoforganist Gottfried Ernst Bestel aus Altenburg. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy lobte nach seinem Besuch 1840 in Rötha die beiden Silbermann-Orgeln. 1796 baute der Universitäts-Orgelbauer Stephani eine schaltbare Pedalkoppel ein. Die letzte größere Restaurierung erfolgte 1979 - 1980 durch die Firma Eule.
