The city's famous landmark, the medieval church (built between 1482 and 1484), is visible from afar and towers over Idar-Oberstein in a prominent location. The ascent itself is an experience: Through a tunnel hewn into the rock, which leads up 234 steps, one reaches the interior.
Please note that the rock church is closed to visitors during wedding ceremonies. Visits to the rock church are only possible as part of a guided tour. Individual visits are not allowed.
As a famous landmark of the city, the medieval church (built from 1482 to 1484) sits prominently visible above Idar-Oberstein. The ascent itself is a worthwhile experience: One enters the interior through a tunnel carved into the rock mass, which leads over 234 steps. Please note that the rock church is closed to visitors during weddings. Visiting the rock church is only possible as part of a guided tour. Individual visits are not possible.
Guided tour times: 15.03. - 15.11. Tuesday to Sunday, 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM. On public holidays and during the RLP school holidays, daily from Monday to Sunday, 11:00 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3:00 PM. Additionally, group tours are possible upon request.
Price per person: Adults: €5.00, Adults with guest card €4.50, Children (7 to 16 years), students, people with disabilities (min. 50%): €4.00, Children up to and including 6 years free admission.

The meeting point for the tour is the tunnel entrance directly at the church. The ascent from the marketplace takes about 10 minutes.

Guided tour times: March 15 - November 15, Tuesday to Sunday, 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM. On public holidays and during the RLP school holidays daily from Monday to Sunday, 11:00 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3:00 PM. Additionally, group tours are available upon request.

Price per person: Adults: €5.00 , Children (7 to 16 years), Students, People with disabilities: €4.00 , entry is free for children up to and including 6 years.
Holders of a guest or family card pay €4.50 as adults, €3.50 as young people (6 to 16 years).
For holders of a family card, the 1st child has free admission.
