Auch dieser Kirchenbau musste schließlich einem neuen Stil weichen, denn im 18. Jahrhundert wurde ein Neubau beschlossen. Von 1764 bis 1767 wurde St. Peter in Lajen als Barockkirche errichtet und vom Fürstbischof Brixens Leopold von Spaur geweiht.
Altar und Kanzel im Rokokostil kamen später dazu, die Deckengemälde stammen von dem bereits in der Pfarrkirche St. Stephanus in Lajen tätigen Josef Arnold dem Älteren.
