Das spätromanische Bauwerk gehört zu den schwäbischen Schmuckkirchen des Landes. Seine klare Architektur und sein eindrucksvoller Bildschmuck ziehen Besucher von nah und fern an.
Im Innern der Kirche sind die Würfelkapitelle der Säulen mit Tier- und Blattornamenten zu bestaunen. Sehenswert sind auch die Grabmale des Sebolt von Brenz (1190), Teilnehmer am Kreuzzug Friedrich Barbarossas, und der Güssen.

Die ersten Fundamente der Galluskirche gehen auf die Römerzeit 90 bis 260 n. Chr. zurück. Bei Renovierungsarbeiten 1964/66 konnte auch die erste Holzkirche aus dem Ende 6./Anfang 7. Jh. nachgewiesen werden. Sie wurde einem allamannischen Adligen als Eigenkirche gestiftet in der sich auch sein Grab befand.
Zu Beginn des 8. Jh. entstand die erste Steinkirche, die bis zum 12. Jh. mehrmals erweitert wurde. König Ludwig der Deutsche schenkte 875 die "capella ad prenza" seinem Kaplan Luitprand für das "Klösterlein" in Faurndau. In dieser Schenkungsurkunde wird Brenz zum ersten Mal erwähnt. Bereits 895 gehen Brenz und Faurndau in den Besitz des Klosters über. Seit dieser Zeit ist wohl der Heilige Gallus der Kirchenpatron der Brenzer Kirche.
