One of the jewels of 12th-century Galician Romanesque architecture. It stands out for its portal carved with biblical and geometric motifs, and its semicircular apse.
In Sarria, along the Camino de Santiago, stands the church of Santiago de Barbadelo, an important testament to Romanesque architecture. This church, whose origins date back to the 10th-11th centuries, was once part of a monastery that was donated to the monastery of Samos in the year 1009. Although it has undergone modifications, such as the replacement of the original apse with a rectangular one in the 18th century, it still retains original Romanesque elements. The facade is notable for its square tower and altered portal, adorned with capitals decorated with anthropomorphic and animal figures. In the tympanum, an enigmatic carved figure suggests the existence of an earlier temple. Inside, a baroque altarpiece houses the figure of the Apostle Santiago, adding a spiritual touch to the place.
