Die Basilika in St. Johann, von Stengel 1754 bis 1758 errichtet, zeigt heute nach umfassender Restaurierung die barocke Schönheit des 18. Jahrhunderts. Sie erhielt vom Papst die Auszeichnung "Basilika Minor". Sehenswert sind das Bronzeportal und der Eingangsbereich, gestaltet von dem Saarbrücker Künstler Ernst Alt. Besonders erwähnenswert ist die Orgel. Sie besteht aus drei selbständigen Werken, der Hauptorgel und den beiden Chororgeln. Sie können einzeln oder zusammen gespielt werden.
Die Sankt Johanner Basilikaorgel umfasst damit 60 klingende Register mit insgesamt 4312 Pfeifen. Sowohl in ihrer orgelbaublichen Konzeption als auch in der Vielfalt ihrer Klangfarben ist sie ein herausragendes und vielseitiges Instrument - weit über die Stadt Saarbrücken und das Saarland hinaus bekannt.
