Adorjás népe hamar református hitre tért (az egész Ormánságra igaz ez), de sokáig a közeli Sámod fiókegyházaként működött: a 18. század utolsó évtizedében a sámodi anyaegyház lelkipásztora hetente kétszer, szerdán és pénteken járt át reggeli könyörgést tenni. 1794-ben a hívek imaházat építettek vert falból, gyékénytetővel – addig Kengyeli János házában gyűltek össze. A templomot 1837-ben szentelték fel, az egyszerű kis épület varázsa a festett karzatban rejlik.
Az L alakú karzatot fatáblák borítják, ahogy a szószék és a padsorok is festettek. A vörös, kék és sárga festékkel festett virágok, rácsmotívumok között látható Noé bárkája és a Krisztust jelképező, értünk önmagát feláldozó, vérével fiókáit tápláló faragott pelikán madár. Azt is tudjuk, kinek a keze munkája mindez, mert a szószék mögött, egy táblán olvasható „Szaitz Jakob tisler mester” neve. A templomban található leírás szerint „az elkésett rokokó gyenge képviselője ő”, aki mintakönyv után, elnyűtt, régi sablonok segítségével dolgozhatott. Ezzel együtt a festett karzat egyedülállónak mondható, az Ormánságot járva érdemes betérni a faluba és annak templomába.
