Construction period: 1899-1900.
Architect: presumably Wilhelm Schulte I.
Stylistic form: neo-Romanesque.
Building type: single-room field chapel.
History:
at the latest by the end of the 17th century: establishment of the first chapel (area 9 sqm, anteroom adorned with cast-iron columns, altar made of hewn stone).
1730: renovation and painting of the chapel; installation of Baroque penance stones, a so-called "seven-stations way of the cross" ("seven cases"), starting from the chapel to the entrance of Queidersbach, remains initially placed in 1927 in the church square of Queidersbach, now set up in the village square there.
1732: establishment of an eremitage (hermitage) near the chapel.
1736: a certain Daniel Forbeck from the Archdiocese of Trier is documented as a hermit.
1740: foundation of a statue of Barbara initially for St. Valentinus Church, later presumably located there until the demolition of the first chapel, now displayed since the construction of St. Antonius Church in Queidersbach (1925).
around 1856: miraculous prayer response through the intercession of Saint Barbara: healing of the ulcer suffering of Barbara Mayer from Knopp at the parish fair (April 26).
1887: within half a year, four break-ins in the chapel, including multiple plundering of the donation box.
1899: demolition of the dilapidated chapel; planning and commencement of the new building.
1900: consecration of the current chapel on October 14; statue of Barbara and wrought-iron gate from the time of construction.
2003: installation of a field cross (memorial cross for the priestly ordination and first mass of H. H. Pastor Marco Richtscheid, donated by the Werkvolk fanfare band Bann) on the outdoor premises.
2005: on March 17, statio of the world youth day cross donated by St. Pope John Paul II in preparation for the XX world youth day in Cologne at the Barbara Chapel. (Text: by Matthias Schneider)
Prayer to Saint Barbara
Saint Barbara, noble bride,
to you may body and soul be confided.
Whether in life or in death,
come to my aid in my distress.
Ask God that at my end,
I receive the holy sacrament.
Through your intercession, grant to me,
that I die in no mortal sin.
Amen.
