The ice cellar near Bliesdalheim is located in the immediate vicinity of the Bliestal leisure trail
With a length of 26 metres, a width of 5 metres and a height of 4-6 metres, the ice cellar has considerable dimensions. The architecture of this cavern is also impressive. The platforms carved out of the rock and sandstone benches on the walls, for example, are striking and suggest a place of worship. The traces of workmanship point to the 18th/19th century. It is more likely that the cave was used as a shrine to Mithras in Roman times. The name "Eiskeller" (ice cellar) indicates that it was once used as a refrigerator. Today, the ice cellar serves as a winter roost for bats.
It is open to visitors in the summer months (guided tours by appointment)
