Stein Castle

Those traveling by car or bicycle through the Upper Drautal can admire the impressive Stein Castle on the shady side between the Irschen train station and Dellach from a distance, where it majestically sits atop a pointed rock needle. Until now, it was not possible to visit the most famous postcard motif between Spittal an der Drau and Lienz, which is still used as a residence by the Orsini-Rosenberg family, except for the Holy Mass in the castle chapel. Access to the living quarters was denied to interested visitors. But this is now changing: Prince Heinrich Orsini Rosenberg is taking a new approach and opening the castle, which can now also be booked for overnight stays, for regular guided tours. Christine Kelz, a hiking guide living in the immediate neighborhood, will accompany groups through the venerable walls. What is it like to live in a castle? What challenges does daily life in such an ancient structure bring? And is there really a secret passage? These and many other questions will be explored during approximately 1 ½ hours.
