The castle of the Lords of Daun-Oberstein, prominently located on a rocky spur above the Nahe, offers, along with Bosselstein Castle and the world-famous Felsenkirche, an impressive backdrop over the old town of the Oberstein district.
Visit: From the courtyard with its covered terrace, you can gaze far over Bosselstein Castle, Oberstein, the Nahe Valley, and towards the extensive forests of Winterhauch. The restored rooms of the castle and the courtyard can be visited from early April to early November.
History: Oberstein Castle was first mentioned in 1330, experienced a heyday in the 15th century, burned down completely in 1855, and was partially rebuilt after 1980 by the Burgenverein Schloss Oberstein. Bosselstein Castle, built around 1150, was inhabited by the Lords of Stein until 1600. It fell into disrepair, so today only a tower stump and a few walls remain. From Bosselstein Castle, there is a wonderful view of the Oberstein district. It's a four-minute walk from Oberstein Castle, which is worth it!
Opening hours: April 1 - October 31: Tuesday - Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., open on Mondays in July and August (Visiting is not possible during castle rentals)
