1580 erbautes Renaissanceschloss vor traumhafter Alpenkulisse mit Schlosskapelle, Schlossbrauerei und Wirtschaft mit kulinarischen Spezialitäten.

Direkt bei Bad Aibling im oberbayerischen Voralpenland und nur etwa 60 km südlich von München liegt der kleine Ort Maxlrain. Die Alpenkulisse mit dem Wendelstein bildet den Hintergrund für das weitläufige Areal des Renaissance-Schlosses von Maxlrain, dem Wahrzeichen eines einmaligen Ensembles. Da sich das Schloss im Privatbesitz befindet, kann es nicht von innen besichtigt werden. Wunderbare Wander- und Radwege, der wohl schönste Golfclub Deutschlands, der Golfclub Schloss Maxlrain, und natürlich die kulinarischen Schmankerl in den gemütlichen Biergärten der Schlosswirtschaft und des Bräustüberls machen den Ausflug eines jeden Besuchers zu einem Erlebnis.

Geschichte

Urkundlich belegt erbauten und stellten die Ritter Podalunc und Reginhart im Jahre 804 ihren Besitz unter den Schutz der Domkirche zu Freising, um es als Lehen des Bischofs in die Reichsordnung einzufügen. Die Maxlrainer erlangten im 15. Jahrhundert ihre größte Blüte und walteten als Reichsgrafen von Maxlrain und Hohenwaldeck bis Miesbach und Schliersee. In den alten Turnierbüchern findet man noch diesen urbairischen Namen.

1580 fiel das Schloß einem großen Brand zum Opfer, nur die Kapelle blieb bestehen und bildete den Kern des neuen Schlosses, welches in acht Jahren wieder aufgebaut wurde. Wieder mit hohem "gotischem" Dach, nun aber an allen vier Seiten von Zwiebeltürmen begrenzt. In den 20er Jahren des 18. Jahrhunderts schmückte die Kapelle und verschiedene Salons im Schloss der berühmte Wessobrunner Johann Baptist Zimmermann mit seinen leichten Rokokostuckaturen und Fresken.

Die Reichsgrafen von Maxlrain erloschen anno 1734, der letzte Graf Johann Joseph Veit von Maxlrain starb als Fürstbischof am Chiemsee. Seine Tochter heiratete einen Grafen von Satzenhofen, deren Tochter einen Grafen Lamberg. Aus dieser Zeit finden sich im Maxlrainer Wald noch Grenzsteine mit den Initialen der Familie.

Um 1730 erwirkte die Gräfin vom Kurfürsten Max Joseph III. die Erlaubnis, braunes Bier zu brauen, indem sie nachwies, dass die braune Brauhausgerechtigkeit schon seit mehr als 100 Jahren in Maxlrain exerziert worden sei.

1870 schließlich erwarb der berühmte Adlerjäger Max Graf von Arco-Zinneberg Maxlrain für seinen Sohn Ludwig, der mit seiner ersten Frau, einer Gräfin Schaesberg, den Ostflügel und mit seiner zweiten Frau, einer Prinzessin Lobkowicz aus Böhmen, den Westflügel hinzufügte und auch die Brauerei neu an der jetzigen Stelle errichtete.

1936 erwarb Leo Graf von Hohenthal und Bergen Maxlrain. Trotz seiner Tüchtigkeit führte das Leben für ihn große Härte im Schild, fielen doch sein erster Sohn Adolf und sein zweiter Sohn Wilhelm dem zweiten Weltkrieg zum Opfer,  sein jüngster Sohn Peter verunglückte 1970 beim Sicherheitstraining auf dem Nürburgring.

1986 konnten sie mit großer Freude das 350-jährige Jubiläum der Brauerei feiern, die nach dem Motto "klein und fein" in ihrem direkten Umkreis hervorragende, frische Bierspezialitäten darbietet. In dieser Bescheidung liegt auch heute noch das Geheimnis der hohen Qualität aller Maxlrainer Bierspezialitäten.
