The castle of Rocca di Calascio

One of the most beautiful castles in the world and one of the symbols of Abruzzo.

The castle probably dates back to the 12th century and was for a long time one of the most important fortifications in Abruzzo. Following an earthquake in 1703 that caused severe damage to the structure, the castle was abandoned. It was only recently restored between 1986 and 1989.

The castle became famous after being the location for several films, most notably 'Ladyhawke' (1985).

The strategic location atop a ridge offers an extraordinary view of the Campo Imperatore plateau, the Navelli plateau and the Tirino valley. The surrounding area can be explored on foot, by bicycle or on horseback.
