WARNING
Currently, construction work is taking place at the brewery.
The unique Malberg Castle complex consists of the so-called New House, the Old House, the Arcade Building, the Brewery, and the Chapel. Additionally, the "Iron Garden" and the "Round Garden" are part of the castle situated on a mountain spur. The Malberg Castle traces back to a fortress mentioned as early as the year 1008. Nothing from the medieval structure has survived. In 1681, the Veyder family took over the castle and, from 1708 to 1715, expanded it into a castle in the style of Venetian Baroque under architect Matteo Alberti from Venice. The representative buildings feature stucco ceilings and wooden paneling as well as tapestries and antique furniture. Unique is a painted wall covering with hunting scenes. The castle can be used for civil ceremonies. The castle is not barrier-free. Dogs are not allowed in the castle.
The outdoor facilities and gardens of Malberg Castle can be visited from Easter until November 2, from Sunday to Friday, between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., on the initiative of the support association.
"Iron Garden"
A beautiful French garden, the "Iron Garden" (1713/14), lies just behind the outer gate, opposite the brewery built in 1714. Its basic layout with the fountain at the path crossing has remained unchanged since the 18th century. Originally, the "Iron Garden" of Malberg Castle served two purposes. On one hand, it functioned as a recreational garden inviting leisurely walks, and on the other hand, it was also managed as a kitchen garden. Vegetables and medicinal plants were cultivated here.
"Round Garden"
Around 1730, a supporting wall and massive fillings were built, creating a garden in front of the new building. The so-called "Round Garden" is located on the southeast side of the castle complex and directly borders the magnificent outdoor terrace from the same period.
Malberg Castle can be explored with the Listening Tour . For children/young people aged 12 and over, there is a Actionbound Rally (digital scavenger hunt).
Around the castle, there is a circular path of approximately 3 km Bitburger LandGang "Castle Route".
Malberg Castle is used as a cultural and event venue for concerts, readings, and much more. Here you can find events at Malberg Castle.
Children can participate in a castle rally.
