In 1649, Frohburg Manor and its castle were sold to August Friedrich von Kötteritz, who arranged for the comprehensive reconstruction of the town and the manor.
Over the next few years, the castle and manor rapidly changed hands from owner to owner. By the time Ernst Blümner, the son of Johann Gottfried Blümner, the Chairman of the 'Leipzig Kammer-Kommission' administrative authority, inherited the estate from his father, it was severely in debt. Nevertheless, as its new owner, Blümner was able to re-establish the castle's cultural and historic importance on both a local level and further afield, which it has maintained right up to the present day.
After the end of the Second World War, the estate was expropriated from the final lords of the castle, Krug von Nidda and von Falkenstein, and the manor containing the castle with its 977 hectares of land was divided up among rural workers and farmers lacking in land. The east and south wings of the building housed a nursery school up until 1974. School rooms and after-school care rooms were also set up in the castle. In 1975, the premises were finally converted into a museum.
Frohburg Town Museum is now based in the castle and the entire building is currently being used again. Its north and west wings have also been continuously extended since the year 2000 and are home to the museum's collections and special exhibitions.
