Um 1700 beauftragte Sachsens Kurfürst August der Starke den Baumeister und Architekten Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann mit dem Bau der barocken Brücke für die Eilpostlinie Dresden - Leipzig. Sie besitzt eine Länge von 143 m. Als Bruchstein diente der lokal abgebaute Grimmaer Quarzporphyr. Die Verkleidung mit dem wertvollen Rochlitzer Porphyrtuff und die Dekoration mit Wappenelementen verleihen der Brücke eine prunkvolle Wirkung. Das Jahrhunderthochwasser 2002 zerstörte zwei der ursprünglich sechs Korbbögen. Seit dem Wiederaufbau 2012 stabilisiert ein Stahlrohr-Sprengwerkbogen das Bauwerk.
