The Second World War also left its mark on the building. In the days before 8 May 1945, members of the Waffen SS blew out the highest arches of the viaduct. Due to reparations, the electrification was dismantled. Around 1950, Polish construction workers worked on repairing the blast damage and in 1957 the first cross-border train crossed the viaduct.
