Time for a pause! The beaver needs areas to rest
Looking downstream, on the left bank of the Rhine, boulder beds can be seen along the bank. When they built the « Alsatian Rhine Trail » (Elsässerrheinweg) which links Basel to Huningue, the designers had the beavers on their minds and created two shelter areas on the banks with boulder beds surfacing in the waterway. This enables the beavers, which migrate between the various biotopes in Alsace, in the Upper Rhine region or along the Ergolz, to cross the city of Basel on the Rhine. The beavers sometimes need to rest between the civilized banks of the large city.
