The approximately 50 x 17 meter large water surface is located in the middle of an open meadow landscape northeast of the Heidhöfe. While the north-eastern bank slopes steeply, the opposite side is flatter and characterized by willow bushes and individual trees such as bog birch, rowanberry and aspen.
Numerous rare and sometimes endangered plant species can be found in and around the water, including various sedge species, feverfew and marsh fritillary. Special habitats such as fescue grassland with peat mosses have also formed in the silting area. The surrounding meadows and wet areas complete the overall ecological picture.
The Kolmannshülbe is also an important habitat and spawning ground for amphibians and an attractive habitat for dragonflies. Information boards on site provide an insight into the special features of this sensitive ecosystem.
A quiet, natural place that impressively demonstrates how historical forms of use and valuable habitats can be combined.
