Auf der Brücke machen wir einen Stopp an der Mündung der Birs in den Rhein. Die Birs entspringt einer Quelle im Berner Jura. Wie viele andere Flüsse wurde auch die Birs begradigt, um Weide- und Bauland zu schaffen.

Im Jahre 2004 hat man den Fluss wieder renaturiert und ein naturnahes Flussbett gebaut. Den Biber hat es gefreut, denn er fühlt sich in naturnahen Gewässern und an unverbauten Uferbereichen besonders wohl.
Schon im Jahre 2010 kam erstmals der Biber zurück an die Birs und hat sich weiter ausgebreitet. Laut der Biberfachstelle Baselland gibt es vier Biberreviere an der Birs.

Ein Spaziergang oder Ausflug entlang des 12 km langen Birsuferweges lohnt sich. Die mit einer Libelle gekennzeichneten Thementafeln erzählen über die vielfältigen Naturwerte der Birs und geben kleinen und großen Biberfreunden Rätsel auf.
