The sculpture "The Great Walker" was created by Georg Ahrens during the sculptor symposium that took place in 1993 at the Swan Pond.
The sculpture "Large Walker" is the form of a torso. The trunk, supported by strong legs, pushes forward.
Without a head and arms, the shapes are tectonically abbreviated – not seeking closeness to anatomy – but understanding the movement of volumes as structure, the image of humanity emerges.
An image, a basic form, articulating in time-conditioned language the absence of a closed, rounded conception of humanity.
At the same time, through archaic shaping that demonstrates the power of confrontation, understanding movement as a sign of life, of being wounded and wounding, this sculpture is an expression of the ever-renewed struggle for humanitas in every era and generation.
