Sumiswald, Schloss: Im Jahr 1225 schenkte Freiherr Lütold von Sumiswald seine Burg dem Deutschen Orden mit der Auflage, ein Spital einzurichten. Der Komtur Hans von Stoffeln wurde 300 Jahre später von Jeremias Gotthelf in der Erzählung «Die schwarze Spinne» als Tyrann verewigt.
