Ein über 2000 Jahre alter Fund einer römischen Landvilla, 1845 in Löffelbach b. Hartberg ausgegraben. Der Löwe (eine Kopie) wacht am Eingang vom Stadtpark, das Original befindet sich im Hartberger Museum.
Kulturspaziergang: Die Fundstätte in Löffelbach ist vom Stadtpark aus in ca. 30 Minuten erreichbar. Die "Villa von Löffelbach" gehört zu den bedeutendsten sichtbaren Bauresten der Römerzeit in Österreich und ist umgeben von Feldern und Weingärten nahe Löffelbach an der Oststeirischen Römerweinstraße.
Das die vollständigen Fundamente der Villa zu besichtigen sind, hat eine lange Vorgeschichte. In der Bevölkerung hieß die Flur immer schon " Versunkenes Schloss". Man wusste also um die scheinbar in den Boden eingesunkenen Mauern eines stattlichen Bauwerkes, das man sich als herrschaftlichen Wohnsitz erklärte. Ähnliche sagenhafte Geschichten findet man in der Steiemark öfters; man hat sehr wohl bemerkt, wenn "uralte" Mauern die Feldbestellung erschwerten oder künstlich aufgeschüttete Hügel inmitten ebener Wiesen lagen.
Ein derartiger großer Grabhügel wurde vor etwa 240 Jahren abgetragen und aus ihm stammende Römersteine in den Bauernhäusern nahe der Villa eingemauert. Gefunden wurde auch der steinerne Grablöwe, der jetzt am Eingang des Hartberger Stadtparks (Kopie) posiert. In seiner Funktion als Grablöwe gewährte er einst als symbolischer Wächter magischen Schutz vor Grabräubern.
