Obwohl Weyregg abseits der großen Heeresstraßen lag, errichteten hier die Römer teilweise luxuriöse Sommersitze. Schon 1767 und 1830 wurden im Garten des Polhammergutes prächtige Fußbodenmosaike entdeckt. Eines davon kann man im Foyer der Volkschule besichtigen.

Die Gebäude entstanden wohl Ende des zweiten Jahrhunderts und wurden durch den Einbau von Fußbodenheizungen und neuen Mosaikböden um ca. 290 nach Christus auf luxuriöse Weise umgebaut. Zwei sehr anschauliche Villen und einige Fundstücke zeigt das Heimatmuseum in Vöcklabruck. Das Motiv des herzförmigen Efeublattes, ein Glückssymbol der Römer, diente als Vorlage für das Wappen von Weyregg. Wer diese Villen errichtet und bewohnt hat bleibt im Dunkel der Geschichte verborgen. Da unter den Fundgegenständen kaum Münzen und Gebrauchsgegenstände waren und da auch keine Anzeichen eines Brandes vorhanden sind, kann man vermuten, dass die Römer in noch friedlichen Zeiten, vor den Stürmen der Völkerwanderung in ihre Heimat zurückgekehrt sind.
