This sixth stage of the Portuguese Way through the Interior offers a noticeable contrast to the previous one. It is a more urban section, with frequent services every few kilometres and a route with moderate elevation changes, making it an easy and comfortable walk for most pilgrims.
The highlights of this stage are found at the end: Valença do Minho, a fortified town with rich historical heritage. It’s well worth stopping to explore its impressive bastioned fortress, one of the finest in northern Portugal. From there, the path crosses the international bridge over the Minho River, marking the entry into Galicia and leading directly to Tui, a Jacobean city with one of the Camino’s most iconic cathedrals.
A short but culturally rich stage that marks the definitive crossing into Spanish territory.

The Camino resumes in Tui, along the banks of the Miño River, where you may join pilgrims who have been walking from Porto, Braga, or even Lisbon. After passing through the city’s historic centre, the path begins a gentle ascent toward Ribadelouro, passing the San Bartolomeu sanctuary, one of the oldest in Galicia and a notable spiritual site along the route.
From Ribadelouro, the trail descends towards O Porriño, the capital of the municipality of the same name, located in the metropolitan area of Vigo, the largest city in Galicia.
Upon reaching the village of Orbenlle, pilgrims have two well-marked options to reach O Porriño:
The official route, which passes through the industrial zone of As Gándaras.
The alternative route, which goes through the natural area of As Gándaras de Budiño and along the Louro River.
Both options are 7.9 km, but we recommend the natural variant, as it avoids asphalt and industrial surroundings, offering a more pleasant Camino experience.
