This exceptional tour starts in the center of Werfen, follows easy trails and paths first through forests, then continues through a beautiful alpine pasture area with stunning panoramic views to the Ostpreussenhütte. An overnight stay is recommended. From there, the route climbs steeply through open alpine terrain to the plateau and over a rocky ridge to the summit.
The roughly 15-kilometer ascent to the Hochkönig/Matrashaus can be challenging for mountaineers but offers exceptional, unforgettable views and experiences. Helpful: good stamina, sure-footedness.
This tour is also recommended as an impressive loop hike, descending via Trail 430 to the Arthurhaus in Mühlbach am Hochkönig.
