How to share your location using BuddyBeacon

BuddyBeacon lets family and friends know exactly where you are. That way, no one has to worry while you're out on a route: by sharing your location through BuddyBeacon, you can be quickly located in case of an emergency.

How to open BuddyBeacon

To activate BuddyBeacon, simply open the map within the app (Map, Plan, or Route). From there, you have two ways to open and activate BuddyBeacon.

Tap the three stacked dots in the bottom right corner of the map to access BuddyBeacon.
You can also activate the feature by tapping your location on the map once and selecting "Send my beacon."

This opens the BuddyBeacon configuration menu, where you can turn on and customize your sharing settings. These settings can be adjusted even while BuddyBeacon is turned off.

In the app's map view, tap the three-dot icon above the map layer selector, then tap BuddyBeacon. Choose whether to show your entire route or just your current position, and when your location should be shared. Tap "Share My Location" and BuddyBeacon is active.

The following settings are available:

Choose a time frame:

For a set amount of time (for example, 3 hours)
Share while tracking
Share manually — meaning until you manually stop the broadcast

Choose specific people to share with:

Invite community members directly in the app
Invite them via a sharing link

Important: To follow you, people must be logged into the app.

Good to know

Anyone who receives the link or has been added can see your location as long as BuddyBeacon is active.
Non-members will need to register first.
When you select a friend's BuddyBeacon, you can get directions to their location, share your own location with that friend, or create a point at their position.
The "Buddy Watch List" gives you an overview of who's allowed to track your location. You'll also see details like battery level, average speed, distance from your position, and distance traveled.
To pause tracking or remove a contact from your watch list, swipe left on the contact (iOS app) or press and hold it (Android app). Friends can also end or pause tracking on their end in the same way.
