How contributions enrich our content

Contributions from other users bring our content to life: they enable feedback, fresh perspectives, and ongoing exchange. On our interactive platform, everyone is invited to leave ratings and reviews, ask questions, provide answers, write comments, and upload media. This not only makes our content more diverse and higher in quality, but also ensures that it always stays up to date.

Ratings and reviews

To rate content (e.g., a route, a destination, or an accomodation), you need to give between one and five stars:

5 - very good

4 - good

3 - satisfactory

2 - fair

1 - poor

You can rate content by clicking the number of stars you want. A star rating can stand on its own, or you can turn it into a full review by adding text, photos, and videos. Just click “Edit review.”

Simple ratings are counted and used to calculate an average, but users’ names are not shown anywhere. In the comments section to the right of the star rating, all full reviews are listed along with the users’ names and profiles.

If another user’s post contains helpful information, you can mark it with a heart to show that you found it useful.

Questions and answers

Under each piece of content, users have the option to ask questions. These questions are directed to the author of the content, but also to regional contacts, such as tourist information offices, or other community members.

As soon as someone asks a question about a piece of content, all platform users who have previously interacted with it in some way are notified by email. This includes, of course, the authors, but also users who have already rated or commented on the content, as well as tourism representatives responsible for the region where the content is located. Any of them can answer the question, and each question can receive as many answers as needed.

Comments (only on tracks and stories)

Tracks and stories are always personal and subjective, which is why they cannot be rated or reviewed. However, users can still leave a post using the comment function, and any other user can reply to that comment. It is also possible to mark a track or story with a like.

Report a concern

If you notice incorrect or misleading information in a piece of content, or even copyright issues, the best thing to do is use the “Report a concern” feature. This sends a message to the Outdooractive team. We then carefully review whether the content or its creator has violated the community guidelines and take the necessary action.

Report a current condition

Current conditions provide important information about conditions along routes, for example about the state of biking and hiking trails. They also alert users to closed areas, hazards, or obstacles. To add a current condition to a piece of content, simply click “Report current condition.” This will open the appropriate entry form.

Good to know

Anyone who receives a notification about a user question can simply follow the link in the message and answer the question directly in the input form. In general, however, any user can answer any other question as well, even if they are not among those who were notified. To do so, just click the white “Reply” button right next to the question.
Only the author of a piece of content, or someone from the same user group in a business context,  can respond to reviews. To do so, they open the content’s detail page, scroll down to the list of contributions, and use the “Reply” function below the review. Each review can only be answered once.

If you are an Outdooractive My Business user, you can also respond to star ratings. To do this, go to the Community Manager and click “Reply” below the relevant entry.

You can edit or delete any questions, ratings, or reviews you’ve written at any time. Just open the related content and click the three dots to access the “Edit” and “Delete” options. Alternatively, you can find all of your own contributions on your profile page under “Contributions” in the menu on the left.

You can’t edit or delete questions, ratings, or reviews written by other users. If there is a problem with someone else’s post, you can use the three dots on the right side of the post to contact the Outdooractive team and report the issue.

To help you stay up to date, you will receive a push notification and/or an email by default:
  • whenever another user posts contributions related to your content
  • whenever someone responds to your own contributions, for example by answering a question

You can manage your notification settings in your profile. Just open your profile page, click “Settings,” and then “Notifications.” Under the heading “Community Updates,” you can use the toggles to choose which messages you want to receive.
