Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV)
The Institution
The Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV) is located in Vienna and has 58 other offices in all federal provinces. It is responsible for the collection of national base geodata, which form the basis of the Austrian spatial data infrastructure. This includes the basic surveying, the creation and maintenance of the cadastre to document the spatial allocation of property rights to land and buildings, as well as the topographic surveys.
THE DIGITAL LANDSCAPE MODEL FROM THE BEV
In Austria, this data is maintained uniformly and completely nationwide in a central database by the BEV and made available in regular update cycles.
The digital elevation model - DEM
In Austria we use a terrain model that describes the earth's surface with a resolution of 10m. The contour lines, the shading and the slope for the Outdooractive Map in Austria are derived from this data.
This terrain model is also used to calculate the route duration and altitude when planning with the route planner.
