Die zwischen Attnang-Puchheim und Stainach-Irdning verkehrenden Züge halten am Dachsteinhöhlen-Bahnhof in Obertraun. Attnang-Puchheim ist mit überregionalen, zwischen Wien und Salzburg verkehrenden Zügen, Stainach-Irdning mit, das Ennstal durchquerenden Zügen erreichbar.
Vom Bahnhof Obertraun fährt im Sommer der Bus Nr. 543 bis zur Krippenstein-Bahn. Im Winter verkehrt zwischen dem Bahnhof Bad Ischl und dem Gosausee der kostenlose Skibus und dient als Krippenstein-Bahn-Zubringer. Gratis ist der Bus nur für Inhaber einer Gästekarte der Orte Bad Ischl, Bad Goisern, Hallstatt, Obertraun, Gosau und St. Wolfgang. Eine Liftkarte der Skiregion Dachstein West ist nicht ausreichend!

Obertraun, am Südufer des Hallstätter Sees, und die Talstation der Dachstein Krippensteinbahn sind mit dem Auto aus Richtung
Salzburg über die A10, Tauern-Autobahn, Abfahrt Golling, weiter auf der B162, Lammertal Straße, über Abtenau, den Pass Gschütt auf der B166 und Gosau und Hallstatt oder über Fuschl auf der B158, der Wolfgangsee Straße, bis Bad Ischl sowie der B145, der Salzkammergut Straße über Bad Goisern und Hallstatt erreichbar;
Wien, Linz, Wels über die A1, Westautobahn, Abfahrt Regau und weiter auf der B145 über Gmunden, Ebensee, Bad Ischl, Bad Goisern und Hallstatt erreichbar;
Graz und Eisenstadt über die A9, Pyhrn-Autobahn, Abfahrt Knoten Selzthal auf die B320, die Ennstal Straße, über Liezen bis Stainach, Schloß Trautenfels, Grimming und von dort auf der B145 Richtung Bad Aussee und ab Bad Aussee auf der Koppenstraße und über den Koppenpass erreichbar.
