Die Untere Lugen-Alpe gehört zusammen mit der Oberen Lugen-Alpe zur Alpwirtschaft Lugenalpe im Oytal unterhalb des Hüttenkopfes. Der Name ist wahrscheinlich vom Personennamen Luog oder Lueg abgeleitet. Urkundlich erwähnt wurde die Lugenalpe zum ersten Mal 1456, gegründet wurde sie wahrscheinlich im 13. Jahrhundert. Conradt Handtmann war ab 1564 der erste Oberstdorfer Besitzer der Alpe. 1726 wurde sie bereits als Sennalpe erwähnt.
