Stickler Hut
The Mur River rises as a powerful karst spring (1,898 m) from the marble of the “Silbereck Series” on the edge of the Tauern Window. This is an attractive high-mountain landscape on the border between the High and Low Tauern (Salzburg). The immediate surroundings of the hut, which is still located below the local tree line, are used for alpine farming.
As early as 1930, the Graz section of the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV) acquired the Murhütte in the upper Murtal valley, but it was destroyed by an avalanche in 1951. As a replacement, the hut—located about 200 meters higher and named after its farmer-owner—was leased in 1958 and purchased in 1969 to mark the section’s 100th anniversary. A major renovation took place in 2003. In 2020, the dormitory rooms were converted into bunk beds for 2 or 3 people.
