Welcome to the Martin Busch Hut!
Construction of the Martin Busch Hut began in the 1930s, but due to the war, it was not completed until 1953. Since the lodge is located on the popular E5 long-distance hiking trail, it is often fully booked during peak season; moreover, the number of beds is very limited.
Following renovations in 2013, the hut is now equipped with modern restroom facilities, though the guest areas remain too small. In nice weather, the terrace—with its magnificent view of the surrounding mountains—is by far the more pleasant place to be.
Despite the retreating glaciers, the Martin-Busch Hut remains a paradise for classic high-altitude hikes. With peaks like the Hinterer Schwärze, Similaun, Finailspitze, Mutmalspitze, and Hauslabkogel, there are summit destinations at various difficulty levels.
The Marzellkamm Panorama Trail and the site where Ötzi was found at the Tisenjoch are other attractions in the area.
The hut is worth a visit on the second Saturday in September for a special spectacle: On Friday, the sheep coming from Niederthal are herded onto the alpine pasture near the hut, and early Saturday morning they’re driven on to South Tyrol. That means getting up early, but it’s well worth it!
