Die bewirtschaftete Klosteralm (Anfang Juni bis Mitte/Ende Oktober – je nach Wetter) auf 2.152 m. ü.M. wurde nach mündlichen Überlieferungen nach der Auflösung des Kartäuserklosters Allerengelsberg 1782 Eigentum einiger Karthäuser Familien, die eine Interessenschaft – über dreißig Mitglieder zählt sie heute – gründeten. Bis zum Bau einer Transportseilbahn im Jahre 1959 war die Alm nur über einen schmalen Fußweg erreichbar. Durch die Lawinenverbauung unterhalb der Kreuzspitze kam man „nebenbei“ zu einer Straßenverbindung.
