Am Rande von Karlstift und am Fuße des niederösterreichischen Aichelbergs wurde 1970 dieses Schutzhaus eröffnet.
Am Fuße des niederösterreichisches Aichelbergs findet man auf 980 Metern die Gmündnerhütte. Die Selbstversorgerhütte liegt direkt im kleinen Skigebiet Karlstift, welches mit acht Pistenkilometern und drei Liftanlagen zwar überschaubar, aber für Skianfänger*innen ideal, ist. Darüber hinaus kommen Rodelfreunde, Skitourengeher*innen und Langläufer*innen auf ihre Kosten.
 
In den warmen Monaten gibt es viele Mountainbike- und Wanderrouten (u.a. Nordwaldkammweg, Nord-Süd-Weitwanderweg, Naturfreundeweg Mauthausen) zu erkunden. Ein verwunschener Moorwasserbadeteich sorgt für eine angenehme Abkühlung mitten in wunderschöner Natur.
 
Zugänge: PKW-Zufahrt, 10 Min. Gehzeit von der Postbuslinie Gmünd-Linz entfernt.

Markierte Wege:
Nordwaldkammweg, Nord-Süd-Weitwanderweg, Naturfreundewanderweg Mauthausen.

Skitouren: Reichenauer Hochplateau bis Liebenau und Sandl

Besonderer Hinweis: Im Sommer Moorwasser-Badeteich, Waldwandergebiet.
Öffnungszeiten: Selbstversorger - ganzjährig!

Küche, Geschirr, Strom, 3 Aufenthaltsräume, 60 Sitzplätze, Holzheizung.
Matratzenlager für 40 Personen.
