The Gleiwitzer Hütte, operated by the German Alpine Club’s Tittmoning Section, is located in a stunning, unspoiled alpine landscape at 2,176 meters above sea level, below the towering peak of the Hoher Tenn (3,368 m), a twin-peaked mountain in the Glockner Group, situated in the central part of the Hohe Tauern National Park in the Central Alps. Mountain enthusiasts will find numerous hiking and climbing routes of varying difficulty levels and lengths.
The fantastic panoramic view from the terrace of the Hirzbachtal valley and the many famous mountains, such as the Steinernes Meer and the Dachstein, will captivate you.
The modernized Gleiwitzer Hütte is an ideal base for hikers, and our cozy rooms and dormitories will make your time on the mountain a special experience. We provide the perfect refreshments for your ascent to the summit, for a mountain tour in the surrounding area, or for the journey back down to the valley with regional and Alpine specialties.
Escape the daily grind and stress. Take a deep breath and enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the hut.
If you’re planning a stay at the hut with dogs, please check with us in advance.

Access trail to the mountain hut
The ascent from Fusch leads in about three and a half hours to the Gleiwitzer Hütte, located at 2174 m altitude.
On this rather little frequented and long hut approach, you will be rewarded with wide views on the second half.
Only few visitors of the Gleiwitzer Hut start from Judendorf.
For this rather unusual but scenically magnificent hut approach, you must be experienced in mountain hiking and there must be stable mountain weather.
With 1500 meters of elevation gain, this approach is significantly more strenuous than the usual hut access from the east.
