Familie Gehring sorgt auf der Buchel Alpe nicht nur für etwa 50 Stück Jungvieh, sondern auch für das leibliche Wohl ihrer Gäste. Deftige Brotzeiten, Käsespezialitäten, frische Buttermilch und hausgemachter Hefezopf oder Kuchen aus dem Holzherd stehen auf der Speisekarte. Aber auch sonst gibt es viele kleine Köstlichkeiten, mit denen sich hungrige Bergsportler stärken können.
Man erreicht die Alpe vom nahegelegenen Parkplatz aus in einer etwa 40-minütigen Wanderung. Aber auch wer vom Wertacher Hörnle oder dem Spieser kommt, freut sich über die willkommene Einkehrmöglichkeit mit wunderschöner Aussicht.
Die Buchel Alpe ist Mitglied im Verein Allgäuer Alpgenuss e.V. und bezieht nur qualitativ hochwertige Waren aus der Region. Der Käse stammt von der Schönegger Käsealm, die Wurstwaren von den Metzgereien Mattausch und Kraus in Wertach. Die Bäckerei Halder in Unterjoch liefert die würzige "Unterlage" für die Brotzeiten, das flüssige Gold kommt aus der Engelbrauerei in Rettenberg und Hochprozentiges aus der Brennerei Trautmann in Opfenbach.
