The Wertacher Hörnle, known to insiders as the "Hoare" for short, is one of the most popular hiking peaks in the Oberallgäu foothills. The south-eastern slopes promise the most scenic ascent to the double summit adorned with alpine roses above the idyllic Hörnlesee lake.
In Obergschwend, 1050 m, near the confluence of the Weißenbach and the young Wertach, we briefly follow the small road leading into the wooded side valley from the bus stop. Immediately afterwards, the hiking signs point us to the ascent path towards Wertacher Hörnle. You can always rely on this excellent signposting for the rest of the route. Behind the tiny Hotzenberg, the pretty Unterjocher church nestles at the foot of the Zinkens mountain. To the south, the broad Kühgundkopf and the Iseler dominate the scene.Numerous footpaths lead across occasionally damp pastures up to an alpine path. This takes us in a few hairpin bends, finally asphalted, to the farmed Buchelalp, 1270 m. The view sweeps over to Breitenberg and Aggenstein. The elegant Tannheimer Kletterzacken peep out from behind the Einstein. We then conquer the pasture slopes of the so-called Edelsberg. In the top right-hand corner of the open spaces, a footpath disappears into the sparse spruce forest. There it turns left
