Böchinger Hütte

The Böchinger Hut is situated in the Pottaschtal and is often referred to as the Pottaschhütte. It used to serve as a shelter for forest workers who, after World War II, worked in the Böchinger Forest on a planting garden to reforest the heavily damaged forest during the war. Due to the distance between the forest and their place of residence, it was too complicated to transport the workers to the forest every day, so they stayed overnight in the hut. At that time, a water supply was already established through its own spring, which is still used today.

When, at the end of the 1960s, the planting gardens were dissolved and the forestry offices took over these tasks after an administrative reform, the Pfälzerwald Association Böchingen e.V. acquired the hut in 1972 to serve hikers. With the increasing number of hikers, the hut was continually expanded, but it is still managed by the Pfälzerwald Association on a voluntary basis today.

The hut offers both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a playground for the little ones.
