A warm welcome to the Schwarzwasserhütte!

The Schwarzwasserhütte (1,620 m) is idyllically situated in the farthest corner of the charming Schwarzwasser Valley. The easy, scenic approach leads partly along a nature trail through the sparsely forested Schwarzwasser Valley, across lush, flowering alpine meadows, and through a biodiverse high-moor landscape to the hut. It’s a wonderful trail that’s a delight even for less experienced hikers and families with children.

The Schwarzwasserhütte was built in 1914 near the Schwarzwasseralpe as a ski lodge. Between 1989 and 1991, extensive renovations were necessary. The rustic “Jägerstüberl” was, of course, preserved as a cozy gem within the old lodge. The rooms and dormitories have also retained their classic mountain hut character. The Zwischenbrugger family has been managing the hut for 20 years—now in its second generation. The hosts love serving regional specialties and home-style cooking.

Our hut is part of the “Mit Kindern auf Hütten”(With Children at Mountain Huts) campaign, an initiative by the Alpine Clubs in Germany, Austria, and South Tyrol promoting family-friendly huts. It is suitable for children ages 7 to 8 and older. Our adventure areas for children: a high alpine pasture dotted with streams and boulders, home to young cows, marmots, and chamois; a diverse array of plant life; an outdoor play area with a swing and a slackline

In winter, the trail to the hut—which is usually groomed—leads through a romantic snowy landscape. The local mountains surrounding the hut are ideal destinations for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers.
