Die Bergbaude Veilchenbrunnen, idyllisch gelegen im Thüringer Wald zwischen den Wintersportorten Oberhof und Zella-Mehlis, wurde in den 60er-Jahren erbaut. Nach einem vierjährigen Dornröschenschlaf wurde sie 2020 mit viel Liebe zum Detail und der Unterstützung von Freunden und Verwandten wiederbelebt. Die Baude bietet Wanderern, Mountainbikern, Schneetourengängern und Langläufern eine willkommene Rastmöglichkeit. Hier können sie sich bei einer Erfrischung ausruhen und leckere Speisen aus der Küche genießen. Der gemütliche Gastraum und der schöne Biergarten laden zum Verweilen ein. Die Bergbaude serviert hausgemachte Schmankerl und deftiges Hüttenessen wie Thüringer Rostbrätel, hausgemachte Sülze, Kaiserschmarrn, Käsespätzle sowie Kaffee und Kuchen. Dazu gibt es erfrischende Getränke, darunter Bier aus der Schloßbrauerei Schwarzbach und das beliebte Kloster Kreuzberg Bier oder eine erfrischende Schorle. Das gemütliche Ambiente und die freundlichen Menschen machen den Aufenthalt besonders angenehm. Hier kann man Freunde treffen und mit anderen Gästen ins Gespräch kommen, um den Alltagsstress hinter sich zu lassen. Die Bergbaude Veilchenbrunnen ist bequem zu Fuß von Oberhof und Zella-Mehlis erreichbar und ein beliebtes Wanderziel in der Region. Bekannte Start- und Orientierungspunkte sind Oberhof, die Sportstätten, das Rondell, der Obelisk, der Rennsteiggarten, der Grenzadler, die Aussichtsplattform Bärenstein, das Schützenbergmoor, der Stein 16, die Zellaer Loipe, der „Rennsteig-Dolmar-Weg“ und der nahegelegene Veilchenbrunnen. Am besten erreicht man die Bergbaude Veilchenbrunnen zu Fuß, mit dem Rad oder auf Skiern über gut angelegte und ausgeschilderte Wanderwege. Eine Karte zur genauen Lage ist ebenfalls vorhanden. In etwa 30 Minuten Entfernung befindet sich der Gebrannte Stein, mit 897 Metern eine der höchsten Erhebungen rund um Oberhof. Von dort bietet sich eine herrliche Aussicht auf den Thüringer Wald.
