Bereits 1668 wurde die Sennalpe Hochried zum ersten Mal genannt. Jeden Sommer sind etwa 30 Milchkühe zusammen mit Ziegen, einem Pferd und etwa 20 Schweinen am Berg.
Die Hüttenwirte legen besonders großen Wert darauf, dass sie ausschließlich Hornviehhaltung betreiben. Das macht die Milch der Kühe besonders gut. Die Alpe ist Mitglied im Verein Allgäuer Alpgenuss e.V. und verkauft an ihre Gäste nur frische Lebensmittel aus eigener Herstellung – angefangen bei der Butter bis hin zu Käse und Wurst.
Die auf knapp über 900 m Höhe gelegene Alpe Hochried ist ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel für Familien mit Kindern, da sie auch von der Mittelstation der Mittagbahn in Immenstadt bergab erreicht werden kann.
