Hiking in Zwölfaxing

This route is a stage of Section ST1 of the Sultans Trail, an international long-distance hiking trail from Vienna to Istanbul. The hiking route follows historic roads through eight countries (Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey), linking towns and villages in a traditional cultural and historic landscape. The trail passes Simmering, Kaiserebersdorf, and Schwechat before arriving at Rauchenwarth.

Section ST1 of the Sultans Trail passes through Lower Austria. After rounding the Braunsberg in the Danube bend near Hainburg, it sets off for Bratislava Castle. The trail leaves the Vienna area at a wild overpass in Schwechat, then continues through the countryside, following the Leitha River and the Danube to Bratislava.Medieval towns, Roman remains, wind turbines, vineyards, and beaver mark this section.  

The main hiking trail Vienna - Lower Austria was once a connecting path between the two federal states, stretching across the southern Vienna Basin. With a length of 126 kilometers and few elevation meters, it was once a great introduction to long-distance hiking life. However, due to its monotony, it was not popular with all hikers. For several years it has not been maintained and has also disappeared from long-distance hiking literature. Only a few remaining markings and signs recall the path once known as long-distance trail 888. I hiked it again for you and was very positively surprised by its diversity. Vom Ausgangspunkt aus, kommt man ziemlich nah an die Startbahn des Flughafens Wien heran und kann gut das Geschehen beobachten.
