Easy hike with many insights into the history of long ago times. The selection of historical sites is almost unlimited. The gate complex of a Roman military station, partly reconstructed foundations of Roman temples, remains of a defensive wall, a medieval refuge castle site, an ancient hollow way, and finally a dam with lock system from the time of the second Jura water correction invite you to linger. The change between forest and riverbank is particularly charming. Hard surface only in the settlement areas.

Hike through the floodplain landscape of the Alte Aare. What a contrast: the quiet, natural waters of the Alte Aare and Zihl and the Nidau-Büren Canal created as part of the Jura water correction. Some sections on hard surfaces.

Historic hike over the sparsely populated heights between Lake Biel and the Old Aare. Along the way, interesting villages located off the main traffic routes as well as the Celtic, Roman, and medieval sites on the Jäissberg. Magnificent views towards the Grosses Moos, the hills around the Frienisberg, and the Alps. Little paved surface.

Hike from the bridge village Aarberg through the almost endless plain of the Moos to the foot of the Jäissberg near Studen. On the straight Roman road, one may sometimes feel something like "legionnaire's madness." However, a visit to the Roman ruins of Petinesca and the church complex of Aegerten/Bürglen is interesting. Unfortunately, there are long stretches of asphalt.
