Hiking in Sevan Lake

Explore the Sevan Peninsula in the early hours of the morning when there is not another soul in sight.

Peninsula with a well-known monastery complexAbout 1150 years ago, when the Sevanavank monastery complex was built on a hill, it was still an island near the northern shore of Lake Sevan. In the last century, due to intensive water withdrawal, the water level fell so much that a wide strip of land from the shore to the foot of the hill became exposed. Since then, Sevanavank can be reached on foot. Today, the place with its pretty churches and the mild summer air is a popular excursion destination for locals and tourists. Outside the main season, it is quieter here – in one of the most beautiful spots at the largest lake in the Caucasus.

Lookout hill above the delicate blue "Armenian Sea"Several grassy hills rise above the northwest shore of Lake Sevan, offering a clear view over the largest lake in Armenia and the approximately 50 km long Geghama volcanic chain. Snow covers their peaks well into midsummer. The ascent to Arjanots along a wide alpine path resembles a relaxed walk for a long time before the final climb becomes significantly steeper. Even in the high altitudes, colorful carpets of flowers cover the slopes in spring, and butterflies flutter above. Seagulls circle above the peaks.

Superb very wild way with quite long sections in autonomy, few localities to refuel and many mountains. It is also an opportunity to discover these countries and their culture with a strong identity.
