Hiking in Setcases

The GR 11, also known as the Ruta Transpirenaica or Senda Pirenaica, is a long-distance hiking trail that crosses the Pyrenees in Spain from west to east.

A classic high mountain stage over panoramic crossings between two of the most famous mountain resorts in the Catalan Pyrenees.

A long descent and transition stage from the high alpine headwaters of the Ter down into the greener valleys of the Ripollès.

Pleasures of hiking and village life at the end of the world The story is also known from the Alps. A mountain village where well over 100 people lived in the 19th century, relying on livestock farming and also a little smuggling. No road, no tourism, only a mule track. Then came the changes in the 20th century, here further intensified by the vicissitudes of the Second World War. In 1969, the last inhabitants left the village; the fact that accessibility was finally improved by a road five years earlier was of no use. The houses began to decay. But then young, foreign people discovered the village (and its charm) and began rebuilding it, which was made easier by the connection to the power grid (1985, the last village in France). Today, 30 people live in the village again, and the children are driven to school by jeep. Various accommodations ensure that tourists stay at least one night in Mantet.

The second section of the GR-11 runs through the Catalan Pyrenees - from the Malniu shelter to the village of Albanyà. This route can be completed in seven stages.

The route to Núria is a classic among classics. It offers a wonderful view of Carançà from the peaks of La Vaca as well as of Núria from the Nous Creus mountain pass.
